Ever since Google disclosed in January that Internet intruders had stolen information from its computers, the exact nature and extent of the theft has been a closely guarded company secret. But a person with direct knowledge of the investigation now says that the losses included one of Google’s crown jewels, a password system that controls access by millions of users worldwide to almost all of the company’s Web services, including e-mail and business applications.
The program, code named Gaia for the Greek goddess of the earth, was attacked in a lightning raid taking less than two days last December, the person said. Described publicly only once at a technical conference four years ago, the software is intended to enable users and employees to sign in with their password just once to operate a range of services.
The intruders do not appear to have stolen passwords of Gmail users, and the company quickly started making significant changes to the security of its networks after the intrusions. But the theft leaves open the possibility, however faint, that the intruders may find weaknesses that Google might not even be aware of, independent computer experts said.
The new details seem likely to increase the debate about the security and privacy of vast computing systems such as Google’s that now centralize the personal information of millions of individuals and businesses. Because vast amounts of digital information are stored in a cluster of computers, popularly referred to as “cloud” computing, a single breach can lead to disastrous losses.
The theft began with an instant message sent to a Google employee in China who was using Microsoft’s Messenger program, according to the person with knowledge of the internal inquiry, who spoke on the condition that he not be identified.
By clicking on a link and connecting to a “poisoned” Web site, the employee inadvertently permitted the intruders to gain access to his (or her) personal computer and then to the computers of a critical group of software developers at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. Ultimately, the intruders were able to gain control of a software repository used by the development team.
The details surrounding the theft of the software have been a closely guarded secret by the company. Google first publicly disclosed the theft in a Jan. 12 posting on the company’s Web site, which stated that the company was changing its policy toward China in the wake of the theft of unidentified “intellectual property” and the apparent compromise of the e-mail accounts of two human rights advocates in China.
The accusations became a significant source of tension between the United States and China, leading Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to urge China to conduct a “transparent” inquiry into the attack. In March, after difficult discussions with the Chinese government, Google said it would move its mainland Chinese-language Web site and begin rerouting search queries to its Hong Kong-based site.
Company executives on Monday declined to comment about the new details of the case, saying they had dealt with the security issues raised by the theft of the company’s intellectual property in their initial statement in January.
Google executives have also said privately that the company had been far more transparent about the intrusions than any of the more than two dozen other companies that were compromised, the vast majority of which have not acknowledged the attacks

History of Kodak
With the slogan "you press the button, we do the rest," George Eastman put the first simple camera into the hands of a world of consumers in 1888. In so doing, he made a cumbersome and complicated process easy to use and accessible to nearly everyone.
Since that time, the Eastman Kodak Company has led the way with an abundance of new products and processes to make photography simpler, more useful and more enjoyable. In fact, today's Kodak is known not only for photography, but also for images used in a variety of leisure, commercial, entertainment and scientific applications. Its reach increasingly involves the use of technology to combine images and information--creating the potential to profoundly change how people and businesses communicate.
Just as Eastman had a goal to make photography "as convenient as the pencil," Kodak continues to expand the ways images touch people's daily lives. The company ranks as a premier multinational corporation, with a brand recognized in virtually every country around the world.
Kodak has made it easy to enjoy your pictures. The expression 'You Press the Button, We do the rest' was a common advertising slogan in the 1890s. This familiar expression was also set to music. Decriminalize it
Emily Hobelmann
Mar 17, 2010 |
In January, 19 of our 25 state senators joined together to introduce Senate Bill 2450, a measure to decriminalize possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. If the measure makes it all the way to becoming law, you’ll be looking at what amounts to a traffic ticket and a fine if you get busted with a personal stash.
The bill’s sponsors say enactment will save money across the board, primarily in police, jail and court costs. A similar law has been in effect in Massachusetts since 2009.
After the bill’s introduction on the Senate floor, it went to the Judiciary and Government Operations committee for a public hearing and vote. The five-person committee unanimously approved the bill after amending the proposed fine amount ($300 for the first time you’re caught with less than an ounce, up from $100 in the initial draft). The full Senate promptly approved the amended bill by a large majority (22 ayes, three nays).
The proposal now faces a parallel process in the House of Representatives–readings, a committee hearing, potential modifications and a vote. As of press time, the bill has passed the first reading on the House Floor and sits in the hands of the House Judiciary Committee. The committee–or individual members of the House–may propose changes to the bill, and no matter what, both the House and the Senate must agree on a draft before the bill advances to Governor Linda Lingle’s desk.
Jeanne Ohta, executive director of the Drug Policy Forum of Hawaii, a decriminalization advocacy group, seems hopeful for continued smooth advancement of the bill, saying that this is the “best time ever [to decriminalize] because of the economic situation, where there’s a concern for priorities and reallocating resources.” Ohta declined to comment on whether she thinks the bill will realistically make it into law anytime soon, saying only, “We are more optimistic than ever.”
Peter Carlisle, prosecuting attorney for the City and County of Honolulu, opposes the bill, saying, “We’ve got enough problems with other legalized substances, particularly alcohol and prescription drugs. We don’t need to add marijuana to the mix.” Asked whether he thought decriminalization could become a reality this year, Carlisle, like Ohta, declined to hazard a guess.
Don’t go lighting up a doobie in the street just yet.

The advantages and disadvantages of being a fan of Jim Morrison
There are some many advantages about being a fan of Jim Morrison. There are a lot of romantic songs that you can sing to your “chosen one”, and writing a poem of him, can help you to conquer the love of this special person for you
Morrison was a handsome and sensual man, he got any woman that he wanted and he could get me if he was still alive. That is one more of the advantages; he is a dead man, so you can dream all that you want and no one would tell you that it never have happened! Because it do happen. In your dreams.
But also, there are a lot of disadvantages, because as I told you, he’s dead and I will never meet him! If you are so deeply in love with a famous person, you want to spend some time with him, maybe in a concert but it won't happen.
You can listen to his music with THE DOORS, and enjoy reading his poems, but no more than this.

Vitamins C and E to Prevent Complications of Pregnancy-Associated Hypertension
Background Oxidative stress has been proposed as a mechanism linking the poor placental perfusion characteristic of preeclampsia with the clinical manifestations of the disorder. We assessed the effects of antioxidant supplementation with vitamins C and E, initiated early in pregnancy, on the risk of serious adverse maternal, fetal, and neonatal outcomes related to pregnancy-associated hypertension.
Methods We conducted a multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial involving nulliparous women who were at low risk for preeclampsia. Women were randomly assigned to begin daily supplementation with 1000 mg of vitamin C and 400 IU of vitamin E or matching placebo between the 9th and 16th weeks of pregnancy. The primary outcome was severe pregnancy-associated hypertension alone or severe or mild hypertension with elevated liver-enzyme levels, thrombocytopenia, elevated serum creatinine levels, eclamptic seizure, medically indicated preterm birth, fetal-growth restriction, or perinatal death.
Results A total of 10,154 women underwent randomization. The two groups were similar with respect to baseline characteristics and adherence to the study drug. Outcome data were available for 9969 women. There was no significant difference between the vitamin and placebo groups in the rates of the primary outcome (6.1% and 5.7%, respectively; relative risk in the vitamin group, 1.07; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.91 to 1.25) or in the rates of preeclampsia (7.2% and 6.7%, respectively; relative risk, 1.07; 95% CI, 0.93 to 1.24). Rates of adverse perinatal outcomes did not differ significantly between the groups.
Conclusions Vitamin C and E supplementation initiated in the 9th to 16th week of pregnancy in an unselected cohort of low-risk, nulliparous women did not reduce the rate of adverse maternal or perinatal outcomes related to pregnancy-associated hypertension (ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT00135707 [ClinicalTrials.gov] ).

Alice in wonderland

Alice in Wonderland
Title: Alice in wonderland
Director: Tim Burton
Writer: Lewis Carroll (Books: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass)
Genre: Adventure | Family | Fantasy
Alice in Wonderland is a 2010 fantasy adventure film directed by Tim Burton, written by Linda Woolverton, and starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Michael Sheen and Stephen Fry. It is an extension of Lewis Carroll's novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The film uses a technique of combining live action and animation.
In the film, Alice is now nineteen years old and accidentally returns to Underland (misheard by Alice and believed to be called Wonderland), a place she visited thirteen years previously. She is told that she is the only one who can slay the Jabberwocky, a dragon-like creature controlled by the Red Queen who terrorizes Underland's inhabitants. Burton said the original Wonderland story was always about a girl wandering around from one weird character to another and he never felt a connection emotionally, so he wanted to make it feel more like a story than a series of events. He does not see this as a sequel to previous films, nor as a re-imagining.
